John A. DeLuca, 79, of Squantum, died peacefully surrounded by his children on June 1, 2013 on the peninsula he so loved.

He was the son of the late, John and Veronica (MacDougall) DeLuca; loving husband of the recently passed Helen (Donovan) Deluca and survived by his children Marie DeLuca and John Putnam, Jeanne DeLuca, Ellen and Richard Moran all of Quincy, John DeLuca of Arizona and Stephen and Lisa DeLuca of Milton; his grandchildren Kristina, Shauna, Thomas, Lauren, Alicia, Katherine, Johnnie, Pat, Vickie, Jamie and Ava; his great grandchildren Julia, Shane and Rex; his siblings Richard, Kenneth, Caroline O’Neil, and Christine Puccia; and long time best friend Dr. Joel Saperstein. He was also predeceased by sons-in law, Happy Farren and Jim Koss.

A true gentleman, he lived his life with kindness, laughter, love and extreme religious faith. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a longtime volunteer for Elder Services. He was an avid athlete, with a love of hiking, biking, swimming and walking. He proudly accomplished the Boston Marathon more than a dozen times, and even did a double marathon. He was a man of the arts. He loved to read and was a talented painter and writer. He enjoyed a good cigar and a glass of Sauterne wine at his former home in Harwichport. He was very captivating, always full of conversation and interesting stories. He offered his shoulder to many, and offered his guidance, insight and support to all who needed it. One of the highlights of his life was his pilgrimage through Spain, hiking the El Camino de Santiago. His was a life well lived, and he was a man well loved. There are no words that describe how much he will be missed.
