      Thomaston ? Mr. Gary W. Packer, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 23.

      Gary was born in Waterbury on December 9, 1948, son of the late Charles L. and Alice M. (Howard) Packer. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, Gary attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School, class of 1967, where he excelled in track and field; he is the still the high school record holder for the shot put. He had been employed as truck driver for many years and will be remembered as an avid Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees and Boston Celtics fan.

      He is survived by his son, Brett M. Packer and his wife Kimberly of Waterbury; one brother, Glenn Packer and his wife Rena of VT and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kyle Patrick Packer and two sisters, Carol Cianchetti and Darlene Lassy.

      Funeral services will be private.
