    1. [S853] Obituary - Ann (McKernan) Moffett, (Stretch Funeral Home), https://www.stretchfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Ann-Elizabeth-Moffett?obId=28953933.
Ann Elizabeth “Bunny” (nee McKernan) Moffett age 95 of Blue Bell, PA died on September 8, 2023. She was the caring and generous matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jesse Woodall Moffett, Jr. and the loving mother of Jesse Woodall (Hylda Kay) Moffett, III of Winchester, VA, Sheryl Ann “Sam” (Robert) Hanson of Central City, PA, Janet Marie “Jimmy” Moffett (Gregory) Gilman of Port Jervis, NY, and Karen Eileen Moffett (John) Johnson of York, PA.

She was the dear grandmother of Rebecca Lynn Hanson of Harleysville, PA, Gabriel McCabe (Carrie) Gilman of Moretown, VT, Sarah Marie Hanson of Central City, PA, Kevin Moffett (Elizabeth) Gilman of Albany, NY, Erin McKernan Johnson (Karthik) Venkatesh of West Newton, MA, Nicholas Moffett Johnson of York, PA, Megan McKernan (Jason Winegast) Gilman of Edwards, CO, Anna Kalmon (Andre) Thompson of Winchester, VA, Scott Farrel Johnson of York, PA, and Bryce McKernan (Lars Trautman) Moffett of Austin, TX. Great grandchildren include Aidan, Ryan, and Jesse Wilson, Graham and Cecily Gilman, Kayand and Relyance Hanson, Raina and London Weingast, Sachin and Sanjay Venkatesh, Henry, Jesse, and Kieran Thompson, Solveig and Leif Trautman, and a soon to be born baby girl. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on February 19, 1928, to John Joseph and Honora Elizabeth (nee Cantwell) McKernan. She is a graduate of St. Denis Catholic Elementary School and Notre Dame High School in Moylan. As a young teenager, after the death of her mother, she ran the family household. She went on to design window displays at Strawbridges in Philadelphia.

The story of how she actually she met her future husband, Jesse, has had many permutations, but all versions involve her brother, Tom, a football game, and the seating arrangements in a standard car. They were married at St. Denis’ on February 9, 1948 in a snow storm and then started a family. They began their married life in the Havertown, PA area, then found themselves in Beaver County, PA and eventually ending up in Dutchess County, NY. In time, they built a “house on a rock” together in Rhinebeck overlooking the Hudson River. Pictures document Bunny up on the roof swinging a hammer. She pursued activities that let her express her creative side including painting, crafts, and quilting. She was kind, caring, and unimaginably generous as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Hospitality was in her DNA whether it was an impromptu cup of tea or her famous Thanksgiving feasts. Bunny returned to PA in 2002 following the death of Jess, her husband of 54 years.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the caring teams of staff and hospice nurses who offered prayers and comfort through their mother’s last days.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Monday, September 18, 2023, at 10 am to 10:50 am in The Funeral Home of John Stretch, 236 East Eagle Road, Havertown, PA 19083 and to her Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 am in St. Denis Church, 2401 St. Denis Lane, Havertown, PA 19083. The interment will take place in St. Denis Cemetery.
