March 9, 1846 On Thursday night last, as Mr. Henry Smithwick of Youghal Cottage, who was accompanied by William Denis Kennedy of Gurteenakilla, steward of Mr. Finch of Tullamore-park and James M'Cutcheon of Boularue, near Kilcoleman, were returning home from attending the market at Nenagh, when at the White Walls, within the suburbs of the town, they were attacked. M'Cutcheon ran back into town, and the driver of the car, James Moloney servant to Mr. Smithwick, drove home at a furious rate, leaving his master and Denis Kennedy senseless on the road.
