      FITCHBURG -- Armand J. Cote, 86, of 49 Madison St. died Friday, Dec. 6th at HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster after an illness.

      Mr. Cote was born in Canada, Sept. 21, 1916, a son of Hector and Adelais (Nadeau) Cote and resided most of his life in Fitchburg.

      He is survived by his wife of 22 years; Sylvia (Griffin) Cote, three sons; Raymond J. Cote, Eugene R. Cote and Leo J. Cote all of Fitchburg, three daughters; Ann Marie Decoteau and Corinne Turchin both of Athol, Alice M. St. John of Fitchburg, four stepsons; Paul J. Thibeault and Ronald Thibeault both of Fitchburg, Gerard Thibeault of Westminster, Joseph Thibeault of New Salem, two stepdaughters; Theresa Sidebottom of Ashburnham, Rose Clark of Fitchburg, a brother; Rene Cote of Westminster, a sister; Theresa Cote of Lunenburg. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 28 step-grandchildren, 38 great-step-grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren.

      He was the husband of the late Loretta (Jacques) Cote who died in 1980 and the father of the late Armand E. Cote who died in 1999.

      For 27 years, Mr. Cote worked as a truck driver for the Bolduc Fuel Co. in Fitchburg, retiring in 1978. Following his retirement he worked for several years as a Gas Plumber.

      Mr. Cote was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a former member of the Fitchburg Eagles.

      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
